Under the theme "Play Your Part: Youth Designing the Future of Media and Information Literacy", the UNESCO Global Youth Hackathon invites young people from all backgrounds to team up, brainstorm creative ideas to advance Media and Information Literacy (MIL) worldwide.
Who can participate
Teams of 2–6 members (national, regional, or international)
All team members must be 18-30 years old
No experience needed! All you need is creativity and motivation—diverse, inclusive teams encouraged.
How to apply
Find your teammates (make your squad as diverse and inclusive as possible!)
Work on innovative solutions addressing challenges posed by AI through MIL and other similar topics. Your proposal can be a game, a website, a podcast, a documentary, etc.!
Submit your proposal document (PDF or Word), including team members, problem statement, objective and target audience and a pitch video (max 3 minutes) that showcases your project.
What you get
Free online training/mentoring with global experts (learn about media literacy, tech, and how to launch a project)
UNESCO certificate for all participants (great for your resume or LinkedIn!)
Top teams win a paid trip to Thessaloniki, Greece to share their project at the Voices European Festival of Journalism and Media Freedom Conference on 26–28 November 2025
